Avoid These The Ingredients In Skin Care Products
This may be a little hard to believe but many skin care products contain ingredients that actually harm your skin over time.
Mineral Oil is the most common offender. I have seen this in literally hundreds of products. It’s also goes by the following names on the product label: petrolatum, paraffin wax and liquid paraffin.
Do you know the reason it is used in so many antiaging skincare products? It’s cheap!
However, mineral oil applied to your skin actually prevents it from breathing. It clogs the pores and interferes with the skin’s natural ability to eliminate dirt and toxins. This, of course, can lead to acne and rough spots on your skin.
It also irritates the skin and if used for any period of time, your skin can actually become dependent upon it. This can lead to dryness and chapping. But wait, sadly, I am not done. In addition, the use of it leads to premature aging of the skin.
Yes, it does blow my mind that this substance can even be referred to as a so-called skincare product at all.
Dioxane (a synthetic coconut derivative): This ingredient is widely used in skincare products. It often contains a high level of concentration of the ingredient called 1.4-dioxane. This chemical can easily be absorbed through the skin. You may want to sit down before you read this next line and it’s the truth. This ingredient is on California’s list of known substances to cause cancer. Yes, it’s true. People pay money to rub a cancer causing agent all over their skin. That is downright scary.
Fragrances: A pleasant smelling fragrance can really make you feel good. It’s great to be able to use a bit of cologne, perfume or even a body spray on your body but your skin care product should not contain fragrances. Unfortunately, many of the fragrances in the market contain substances that are known to be carcinogenic and even toxic.
It’s easy to forget that the skin is the largest organ of the body. Any substance you apply to your skin can easily absorb into your pores.
So I do think putting a dab of cologne or perfume on your body is fine but recommend you avoid using skin care products with fragrances. People will be people and we all want that extra edge of smelling nice so I agree with a dab here and there from a perfume or cologne.
But, this is not so true with skincare product where the intent is to rub it all over your body, face, neck, arms and it gets absorbed into your pores and skin. This is just not a healthy and safe choice with a product that contains a fragrance.
Parabens: also known as propyl, methyl, ethyl paraben and butyl. Parabens are preservatives that manufacturers use to extend the shelf -life of a product for economical reasons. Sadly, parabens are put in many skin care products (including anti aging creams too). The bad news is that studies reveal they may cause cancer and interfere with the body’s endocrine system, as well as cause skin rashes and allergic reactions.
Alcohols: also known as ethyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, ethanol, methanol, isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol. There are certain effects of alcohol that make it something that should not be used in your skin care system and is often found in skin care products. It has a drying effect on the skin and also causes irritation in some cases. Moreover, one of the sustained effects of alcohol is that it washes out the natural acids of the skin and leaves it susceptible to moulds bacteria, and viruses.
Well, enough of the bad stuff that that damages your skin to no end. Let us take a look at some high quality and safe ingredients which can enhance and improve your skin.
